Travel Inventory Management Software: An Evaluation Checklist
The questions worth asking before you commit to a travel inventory management system — validation, versioning, bulk editing and sync behaviour.
Start with how data gets in
Ingestion is where most inventory projects stall. Ask to see the upload template, then ask what happens when a row is wrong. A system that rejects a whole file without telling you which row failed will cost your team hours every week.
- Is validation shown per row, before anything is published?
- Can a partial file be accepted while errors are corrected?
- Can the same template be re-used for scheduled updates?
Then look at editing at scale
Single-record editing is easy to demo and rarely the real workload. Seasonal repricing touches hundreds of records at once. Look for bulk edits scoped by product group, destination or date range, and check whether the result can be previewed before it is applied.
Insist on versioning
When a partner questions a rate, you need to know what the record said last Tuesday. A change history per record — who changed it, when, and from what value — turns a dispute into a lookup.
